Zimbabwean schools are set to open on February 7 for the first term, Acting President Constantino Chiwenga has announced.

Schools were meant to open on January 10, but the opening date was deferred following a rise in Coronavirus infections.

“The general calendar starts on 7 February 2022 following one week of finalising all preparations by both school administrators and parents,” read a statement signed by Acting Health Minister Professor Amon Murwira.

The announcement was part of a set of relaxed national lockdown regulations. The daily curfew now starts at 0000 hrs to end at 0530 hrs, according to the revised measures.

“Restaurants and hotels offering catering services to operate from 0800 hours and close at 2200 hours and allow sit-ins only for fully vaccinated persons.”

Bars and nightclubs now open from 0800 hours to 2200 hours only for vaccinated persons, according to the statement.

The acting president also announced measures for travelers into Zimbabwe, which included the lifting of mandatory quarantine for those that are fully vaccinated.

“Quarantine for locals, returning residents and visitors is lifted for those fully vaccinated.”

The statement added: “All persons entering Zimbabwe must undergo a valid COVID-19 PCR test not more than 48 hours from the time of their departure for Zimbabwe. Those who do not have a valid negative PCR test and a certificate to that effect shall be denied entry into Zimbabwe.”

Businesses are now allowed to have their employees working from the offices, according to the new regulations.
