Mberengwa man fatally axed over a woman.

A 23-year-old man died after being struck with an axe on the head over a woman by his rival in Mberengwa on Saturday.

The incident at about 1600 hours at Masase Business Centre under Chief Mutevaidze in Mberengwa, police have said.

The deceased man, PrinceNcube was allegedly attacked by Anelle Sithole, who he was drinking beer with at the business centre, and later quarrelled with over a girl they both loved, according to the Zimbabwe Republic Police Midlands Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.

“It is alleged that PrinceNcube of Village Dugwe, Chief Bangwe in Mberengwa was drinking beer at the same bar with the suspect AnelleSithole when a misunderstanding arose between the two over a girlfriend, they both loved. In an effort to solve their dispute, the two are said to have gone outside the bar to talk and they came back after some minutes,” Mahoko said.

However, when they got inside Anelle picked an axe which he had previously kept under the bench and struck Prince once on the left ear and once on the neck before fleeing from the scene.”

Ncube was ferried to Masase hospital by well-wishers where he was further referred to Gwanda but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

“Matter was reported to the police who attended the scene leading to the arrest of the suspect. The matter is under investigation and the body of the deceased is at Masase Hospital awaiting post-mortem.”

Mahoko appealed to members of the public to resolve their disputes or differences without the use of violence.
