A man in Shurugwi allegedly stabbed his friend to death on Friday night for being involved with his girlfriend, police have said.
The suspect, Hardlife Mudzingwa (30) found his girlfriend with his friend Blessing Mxotshwa (30) at her home and a fight ensued between the two men that resulted in a fatal stabbing, according to Zimbabwe Republic Police Midlands Provincial Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.
“Hardlife Mudzingwa aged 30 years and Blessing Mxotshwa aged 30 years of Village 14 Tokwe 3 Valley, Shurugwi were friends. Hardlife, the suspect in this case discovered that they were in love with the same woman aged 24 years.
“On the 08th of April 2022 around 1950 hours, it is alleged that he visited his girlfriend at her home and she refused to open the door for him. This did not go down well with the suspect who forcibly gained entry through a broken dining room window and discovered that she was with Blessing Mxotshwa,” Mahoko said.
He added that Mudzingwa and Mxotshwa then got into an argument and the former produced a knife which he used to stab the latter “once on the neck and fled the scene.”
“A report was made at ZRP Shurugwi and scene was attended and the body of the deceased was conveyed to Shurugwi District Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem,” Mahoko said.
The police appealed to anyone with information that can help locate Mudzingwa to come forward.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, the police are appealing for the public`s assistance in identifying a hit and run victim. The unidentified man was walking along the Gweru-Shurugwi Road when he was hit by a vehicle near Guinea Fowl Secondary School on Sunday, according to Mahoko.
“We kindly appeal for assistance from the public to identify the body of a man who died after being involved in a hit and run accident which occurred at the 16 kilometre peg along the Gweru-Zvishavane Road. The injured man was discovered on 10 April at about 0010 hours.
“It was reported that the man, approximately 35 years of age, was walking on the edge of the road near Guinea Fowl Secondary School when he was hit by an unknown motor vehicle. The driver of the vehicle did not stop.”
He added: “Police attended the scene and took the injured man to Gweru Provincial Hospital. Unfortunately, he died before receiving medical attention.”
The police appealed to anyone that may have witnessed the accident to help them identify the deceased and to locate the motorist responsible for the hit and run.
“We also reiterate the call for drivers to always exercise maximum degree of caution and adhere to provided speed limits when driving, Mahoko said”
